Nike’s latest ad for the campaign “You Can’t Stop Us” starring 53 Nike athletes portrays power of sports and speaks out on diversity and togetherness during difficult times.

Watch the video here:

The 90-second commercial with more than 4,000 pieces of footage was released on July 30th which is divided into split-screen with shots of two athletes paired perfectly alongside and blended together.

The ad has been winning big on all the social media platforms as it reflects on the ongoing events showing that sports are still being played with empty stadiums because of the lockdown. This has resulted in high arousal of positive emotions within people.

The ad is narrated by American soccer player Megan Rapinoe, who has been an advocate for diversity and has always shown her full support for female athletes and women’s sports.

A part of the narration goes “We know things won’t always go our way. But whatever it is, we’ll find a way. And when things aren’t fair, we’ll come together for change” giving people hope to survive and stay positive amid these unprecedented times.

The caption of the video mentions “Nike strives to bring innovation and inspiration to every athlete* in the world. (* If you have a body, you are an athlete.)” This has sparked a natural connection between Nike and everyone who watched the video as everyone with a body is referred as an athlete.

As of 5th September, the video has 58 Million views on YouTube. Nike also posted the video on Twitter where it has 40 Million views.

The ad is a huge hit on the internet. People haven’t stopped praising the video for the message it delivered and are referring to the video as an editing marvel.

Here's what people had to say about the ad:

Interesting topic Ritika : ) Nike looks like it's struck gold by piggybacking on current social and political issues, such as the frustration and disappointment over the cancellation of the 2020 Olympics and other sporting events, the COVID-19 pandemic (which has affected us all), BLM, feminism, and they even made a nod to LGBTQIA+ Pride (the rainbow torch 32 seconds in). It appears Nike's banking on the ad's message enhancing their brand image—by associating Nike with the feel-good message of inclusivity (reinforced by the use of "we" by the narrator) and a statement about overcoming adversity. Megan Rapinoe is also something of a celebrity and an advocate for LGBTQIA+. She no doubt had to overcome a lot of adversity i…

Hey Ritika! I remember coming across this particular video while scrolling through YouTube and just being awestruck by the creativity and positive message that the brand is spreading during these times of distress. I also remember the applaud and acceptance this video received since it included men and women across all spectrums of the sports played around the globe not making it seem like the field is dominated by one gender. Overall the efforts and thought processes put behind this video are something that deserves the virality it has gained across the globe.

Great reading and very informative helping me connect with the theme of the blog and gaining further insights about going viral. Looking forward to reading more such…
